Common questions
- Is the Home Renovation Savings Program income-tested?
- No. Unlike BC's income-tiered programs, HRSP rebates are based on your heating type (Enbridge gas vs non-gas) and upgrade path (single vs bundled), not household income.
- Why are heat pump rebates lower for Enbridge gas homes?
- HRSP offers $500 per ton up to $2,000 for air-source heat pumps on Enbridge gas service. Non-gas homes (electric, oil, propane, wood) receive $1,250 per ton up to $7,500 because switching off fossil fuels delivers greater emissions reductions.
- Do I need an EnerGuide audit?
- Only for the bundled upgrade path (2+ upgrades with higher total rebates). Single upgrades like a standalone heat pump, solar, or smart thermostat do not require a pre-retrofit audit. For bundled projects, you must complete the assessment before any work starts.
- Can oil-heated homes stack rebates?
- Yes. Oil-heated homes may combine HRSP with the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program for an additional $5,000–10,000 when switching to a heat pump, subject to federal eligibility rules.
- How do I find a participating contractor?
- Search by postal code at homerenovationsavings.ca. Only contractors registered with HRSP can submit rebate applications on your behalf. New contractor registration closed May 31, 2026, but existing participating contractors continue to enroll projects.
- When does HRSP end?
- The program is active through November 30, 2026, subject to available funding. Apply early and confirm your contractor is registered before purchasing equipment.
- What is the difference between single upgrade and bundled?
- Single upgrade covers one measure (e.g. heat pump only) with no audit. Bundled requires a pre-retrofit EnerGuide audit, at least two upgrades, and offers higher caps on insulation, windows, and combined measures.
- Can I get a rebate for solar panels?
- Solar and battery storage may qualify under the single-upgrade path for up to $10,000 combined. Confirm eligible products, net-metering rules, and current formulas on homerenovationsavings.ca — amounts and eligible technologies are updated by program administrators.
- What property types qualify for HRSP?
- Eligible homes include detached, semi-detached, townhomes, row houses, and mobile homes on permanent foundations occupied for at least 6 months. Condos, apartments, stacked townhomes, and new builds are generally excluded. Cornwall Electric customers are typically excluded unless on Enbridge Gas.
- Why do HRSP rebates get rejected?
- The most common reasons: starting bundled work before the pre-retrofit EnerGuide assessment, using a non-participating contractor, heat pumps not on NRCan's qualified list, only one upgrade on the bundled path, or missing documentation. See our complete HRSP guide for the full checklist.
- How much can I get in total?
- Most homeowners receive $1,500–7,500 depending on heating type and upgrades. Oil homes stacking HRSP with federal OHPA can exceed $17,000. Gas homes with a heat pump only typically max around $2,000 provincially unless bundling insulation and windows.
- When does the Ontario heat pump rebate end?
- HRSP is confirmed through November 30, 2026, but can close early if funding runs out. Greener Homes and HER+ are already closed. See our heat pump rebate deadline guide for timing details.
- What is the Ontario smart thermostat rebate?
- HRSP offers $75–$100 for eligible smart thermostats on the single-upgrade path with no EnerGuide audit. Confirm eligible models at homerenovationsavings.ca.
- What is the attic insulation rebate in Ontario?
- Standalone attic insulation qualifies for up to $1,250 on the single-upgrade path with no audit. Combined wall and basement insulation on the bundled path can reach up to $7,700.
- What is the Enbridge heat pump rebate?
- Enbridge gas homes receive $500 per ton for air-source heat pumps, maximum $2,000. Non-gas homes receive $1,250 per ton up to $7,500. Bundled insulation and windows can still reach up to $10,000 for gas homes.
- Is Ontario Rebate Check official?
- No. We are an independent guide and eligibility tool. We reference homerenovationsavings.ca and saveonenergy.ca but are not affiliated with Enbridge Gas, IESO, or the Government of Ontario. Final eligibility is determined by program administrators.
